Haitian cremas is a traditional drink served specifically throughout the Christmas and New year holidays but can be enjoyed at any time of the year. It is mostly made of coconut milk, evaporated milk, condensed milk, sweet spices and essences and rum.

The holidays are just not the same if you don’t have cremas at your holiday gatherings or just having a sip on your own.

As a kid growing up on the island of Haiti, one of the most exciting things about the holidays aside from “Soup Joumou” was getting to have a shot of cremas or liqueur (flavored syrup and rum) with your cake. Everywhere you went it was offered. It was an exiting time.

This year I am happy to invite you into this revered tradition and share a bit of our culture with you.

Despite all the adversity our nation and people have suffered and continue to suffer, we remain positive and optimistic that better days are coming. There is nothing better than holiday celebrations and old traditions to help lighten things up and keep us uplifted.
